Note for Parents regarding Vat on Clothing

Many companies, and retail outlets include the VAT on products sold as part of the price you actually pay, and do not indicate within their pricing, how much of that purchase is VAT (Value Added Tax)  At my school uniform, the majority of our products sold are children's clothing, and is Zero rated VAT, meaning that the price you see is the final price you pay.

We believe that VAT should be clearly identified to the a parent, and our website gives you a precise breakdown the costs incurred in your purchase.  The following VAT Statement should help parents understand the Vat rules set out by HM Revenue and Customs.

My School Uniform VAT Statement

My School uniform uses VAT calculations for items sold based on advise and guidelines published by HM Revenue and Customs.  Below is our code of VAT calculations regarding the sale of children's and adults clothing and other related items offered for sale on this website.

Children's clothing is Zero Rated for VAT purposes. You will clearly be able identify what  is classified as children's items from our website.  Your shopping cart will also give you a full breakdown of any items that may contain VAT, and how much may be applicable to that item. The Zero rating rule does not extend to other products such as bags and satchels.

In some cases, some other items of clothing such as baseball caps may be specifically designed for use by children, and, an adults version of this product may be available.  In this case,  VAT will be chargeable on the adults items only.

If your child attends a school which caters exclusively for children under the age of 14 years, namely first and middle schools, the zero rating rule may be extended to adults items of clothing for the use of a child attending this school.  In this case the garment must  carry the logo of the school, otherwise the zero rate VAT rule will not apply, as this item could be seen to be used for another purpose other than for school uniform of a child.  This will again, only apply to items considered as clothing and other accessories such as bags will still be subject to VAT.

This area of zero Rating adults clothing will not apply to a school which caters for children over the age of 14 years, in which case any adults items of clothing will be subject to VAT, regardless of the age of the child they are intended for. An example of this would be a high school, or comprehensive school.

VAT on Carriage:

When an entire purchase is made from our website, which does not involve VAT, or we are able to zero rate your entire purchase of products, VAT will not be chargeable on the carriage to yourself.  If any item of your purchase contains is chargeable of VAT, the carriage charge will be subject to VAT.
